Who are we?

AxSWeb was founded by John Scott, an Internet development consultant and academic with over 30 years experience in the development of industrial and medical computer systems and latterly (since 1994) internet and web based systems. In the 1980's John was active in the International Standards Organization arena for Computer Graphics and understands the importance of standards for interoperability between systems and longevity of software applications. Usability has been a core feature of John's approach to system development since before the web was born, so it has been a natural progression to embody these features in web development projects, more recently focusing on recent specifications for accessibility.

AxSWeb have available a core group of talented designers and under John's direction AxSWeb can specify, design and develop websites and web applications tailored to a client's needs.

This website

You may have noticed that this website is designed with a light touch; no distracting adverts; no unnecessary graphics and a simple but effective user interface. The rationale for this was born from a requirement to present information with minimal distraction. The site was modelled on a simple paper brochure, with special attention to clean simple lines. Only two fonts are used; one for headings and one for body text.

Not all sites require this approach, as can be seen from the samples in the sites link. Individuality is key, together with an appropriate use of color, imagery and interaction. Quite often this is led by the client's house style, branding or colourway.

The AxSWeb approach

People matter, and AxSWeb put the client's needs to the forefront. We work with the client to determine the scope, strategy and creative requirements for a website. We identify content and plan for the creation of that content. We identify the technological requirements and logistical issues. We work with the client at all stages to ensure the creative elements match expectations. We use appropriate techniques to implement a website design which uses a minimum of technology and meets all current standards and legislation.

The end result is a website which is visually engaging, with excellent interaction and above all is highly usable and accessible. This means that we won't use any unnecessary technology to create the user interface, although media content will be used where such content is appropriate.
